Hi Friends!

The Asia Pacific CANSO conference, sponsored by Airbus Pro Sky, was held in the first week of May 2012,from 1st May to3rd May, in the Maldives, hosted by Maldives Airports Co.Ltd. and was centered on the theme "Transforming ATM Performance for Sustainable Growth". With air traffic in the region forecasted to double by 2020 the conference examined the ATM initiatives and collaborative efforts needed to achieve sustainable growth in the region. This International Air Traffic Managers forum is a unique opportunity for the ATM leaders of this region to discuss how ANSPs here can work together to address this challenge.

This conference was attended by CEOs, Directors, and senior managers from ANSPs across the Asia-Pacific and other regions of the world, and significant international partners such as ICAO, IATA and leading industry suppliers.
In the keynote address, President Waheed of Maldives, recognised the important role of aviation and commended CANSO’s vision for transforming air traffic management performance.
“Air travel is almost synonymous with modern life. It is the fastest growing means of transportation where total passenger traffic is doubling every 15 years.”
“Transforming air traffic management for sustainable growth is very important for the sake of our environment, our future and our survival,” President Waheed said.
“The consequences of environmental neglect and complacency are no more debatable.”
The highest point of the Maldives’ 1,100 small islands is around 1.5m. Therefore, any rise in sea level poses a serious threat. President Waheed said that the country is doing all it can to reduce its carbon footprint and is working with the private sector to implement bold policies that mitigate CO2 production.
“Institutions like CANSO, just like governments, can bring about changes to redress environmental damage and neglect, and improve the situation.”
President Waheed said that aviation can contribute to a clean environment through more efficient aircraft, the use of bio fuels, new air traffic management technologies and procedures, and improved airspace design.
Among other things which was discussed during the conference there was a ICAO Fuel Savings Estimation workshop also.

Operational measures are one of the instruments available to States to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. The ICAO Fuel Savings Estimation Tool (IFSET) has been developed by the ICAO Secretariat with support from States and international organizations to assist the States to estimate fuel savings in a manner consistent with the models approved by CAEP and aligned with the Global Air Navigation Plan.
The ICAO Fuel Savings Estimation Tool (IFSET) is not intended to replace the use of detailed measurement or modelling of fuel savings, where those capabilities exist. Rather, it is provided to assist those States without such facilities to estimate the benefits from operational improvements in a harmonized way.
The safe and efficient operation of air transport systems is to a large part dependent on the skills and knowledge of the national personnel who operate and maintain these systems. Hence, such Conferences are very important and contribute to a overall balanced growth in Air Traffic Services.
CANSO is the united voice of Air Navigation Service Providers across the globe. CANSO Members are responsible for supporting 85% of world air traffic, and through CANSO Workgroups, Members share information and develop new policies, with the ultimate aim of improving navigation in the air and on the ground. CANSO also represents its members’ views in major regulatory and industry forums, including at ICAO, where they have official Observer status.

Integrated, united, balanced approach will definitely benefit the world community who are responsible to provide fast, safe and cost effective air travel. So we are taking off in the right direction.

Let all our dreams for CUSTOMER DELIGHT come true with all our concerted efforts…
